2:00 PM - Substratums of Glory

Michael Keucher

"He holds all creation together in himself,"
Reads that ancient Corinthian text

It makes a sliver of sense, that text on the shelf
For I have this moment, but what of the next?

With his hand he lifts the lowliest sparrow
And heaves it to highest heights

And with the other he shoots an arrow
Into the young man's nimblest nights

But what of the static, simple stuff
That fills this place, earth and space?

The thrice-degreed doc is sure enough:
Even a table is energy, condensed and apace

What divine energy that gives and takes
And makes everything, charging it with grace!

And the colors! And the bright!
Are these spectacles particles or waves?

Ah!  To see as he sees, in his light
I throw the scope away and gaze

And I see everything for what it is:
A substratum of glory.
