8:00 PM - It’s Snowing Now

Robert Healey

It’s snowing now.
I don’t know how or why.
The fact that I had other plans
Gets in the way, and chances are
It’s for the best,
It’s all for the best,
If I could see the best.

It’s snowing now.
I should be out in the swirling flakes,
Making angels and building men,
And flinging splatting bombs,
And sledding like a half-crazed penquin,
And doing all the things that children do
When they are excited that…

It’s snowing.  Now,
I’m from Oklahoma, so we don’t get much,
And to have it snowing
Normally makes me a little crazy,
But today—you know what’s crazy?—
It’s driving me crazy, because…

It’s snowing still,
And dreams of driving but one hour,
And a little more, to an event,
To the yearly March for Life in D.C.
To be a voice for the unborn,
And feel the powerful tread of some hope,
And witness to something I believe in,
And march with friends I haven’t seen
In ages, so it seems—
Such dreams are floating dismally away
On the inch by inch of maddening white.

It’s snowed us in.
And here I’m praying just to see the best,
If there is something best
About being snowed in.
And then it hits me—

—like  a well-aimed snowball—
That I can march,
And witness,
And change hearts,
And really do something
Right here in the presence
Of the God of the Universe himself.

It’s snowing.
So lovely, so peaceful, so purposeful.
Thank God it’s snowing!
